Waxed Cotton Jackets
All of our Waxed Cotton jackets are made by us, using only the finest 2 ply cotton from Halley Stevensons of Scotland. They have a unique quality insofar as both the outer shell AND lining are made from waterproof cotton.
The Waxed Cotton is a USA grown two ply, long staple cotton. It is a more expensive fabric than traditionally used for wax cotton and gives a far better drape due to using two finer counts of cotton yarn that achieve a more compact weave and makes the fabric stronger with improved handling. The fabric also ages much better when using a two ply yarn. It is also much more waterproof due to the tighter weave. The most popular wax Cotton jackets on the market use a single ply weave as it is cheaper to buy, but our intention has always been to only use the best available fabrics.
The lining fabric is also from the same supplier in Scotland and using the same principles of finer yarns and a tighter weave, it acts as a second barrier against the elements to give you one of the most waterproof wax jackets on the market.
Our Waxed Cotton Jackets are then trimmed with Tweed from Lovat Mill or Harris Tweed in Scotland. The leather that we use comes from Tanneries Pechdo of France. Lastly, we always use a tough 2 way chunky brass zip. It's a size 10 in the trade. Other popular brands use a size 8.
