This authentic fabric outperforms all pretenders that claim to be Loden fabric. The combination of wool with alpaca provides the perfect defence against rain and cold. The heat retention qualities of the two fabrics combined has been a long known Secret of the austrians for over 100 years. Secondly it means that the natural brush of the fabric we'll see water droplets being repelled by the surface and due to the exceptionally tight weave that can be achieved when combining these two yarns, nothing will get through. Any small amount of water retained on the fabric surface simply serves to tighten the weave further as the the alpaca element absorbs it. This is how authentic Loden works. Of course there are cheaper versions on the market purporting to be by this type of jacket but they don't do this and invariably they claim to be waterproof because they use an artificial plastic membrane which then affects it's breathability. We prefer to keep you warm and dry naturally but it comes at a price.
